Takaya Shrine is one of the 24 shrines in the Engi-shiki of Sanuki Province. The main shrine, originally located at the top of Mt. Inazumi, was moved to the foot of the mountain, but was later re-constructed on the summit. It is also called Inazumi Shrine (Inazumi-san), from the name of the mountain, and has long been popular as the god of rice. The 404-meter-high summit commands a panoramic view of Kannonji City, with the vast Hiuchinada Seto Inland Sea and Ariake Beach stretching out below. If the weather is fine, even Mt. Ishizuchi can be seen from the summit, making it an excellent view spot. From the Shimogu, the village shrine, to the main shrine, there are 270 steep and wide stone steps at the end, and in the middle of the steps sits a rock called Yurugiishi, which does not fall even when pushed with a finger.

Feeling the nature
Takaya Shrine is also a great place to enjoy the autumn leaves. There is a parking lot at Inazakitaisya Takaya Shrine (Shimogu), from where you can climb up to the main shrine. It takes about 40 minutes from Shimogu to Hongu, so please allow plenty of time for the climb. There are many steep slopes and unpaved paths along the way, so please dress appropriately and enjoy the hike. In spring, you can enjoy the Takaya Festival and cherry blossoms.
