In the precincts of Kosho-ji Temple, there is an overnight hermitage said to have been built by Muneaki Yamazaki, the founder of haiku.
Yamazaki’s writings include the Shikinbutsu Kanjincho (a prospectus for collecting donations for the reconstruction of the main hall), a letter to Tokujuken, and a strip of paper entitled “kashiyagino sodewoyashimoni hashihimego” among others.
The phrase, “The sleeves of the nightgown for rent are wet with frost, and the Hashi-himego” means “kashiyagino sodewoyashimoni hashihimego” and is one of the few phrases by Sokan remaining in Kannonji City.
