Nakahime Hachiman Shrine|A forest of unspoiled trees

Nakahime Hachiman Shrine, also called Nakahime Munakata Shrine, is located in Nakahime, Onohara-cho. It is said that the shrine was originally built in the Genki/Tensho period of the Warring States period (1570-1593) by Saito Shimosomori, lord of Fujime Castle in Awai Village, and was revered as a clan deity.
The deities are Obinakahiko-mikoto, Obinihime-mikoto, and Hindawake-mikoto. The autumn festival is held at this shrine, and all the chousa in the area gather there. Nakahime Hachiman Shrine and shrine plexus are designated as a natural monument by Kagawa Prefecture.

Northwestern shrine pavilion: The upper layer is a shii forest (with a small amount of itajii mixed in), and camphor trees and mountain ash are growing in the other layers. The middle layer is covered with camphor tree, camphor tree, sakaki, mountain ash, and camellia japonica. The lower level remains undeveloped.
Eastern pavilion: Large-diameter trees such as camphor tree, camphor tree, and mountain ash are growing in the upper layer. The middle layer is covered with camphor trees, blackberry, sakaki, camellia japonica, mokkoku, etc. The lower layer remains undeveloped as in the northwestern area. The lower layer remains undeveloped, as in the northwestern area.

Although shii forests can be found throughout the prefecture, the only ones that grow on the plains, especially in alluvial areas, are found in the shrine’s plexus, which is designated as a natural treasure of the prefecture.
