The Hosenji Maple Festival is a famous local festival held every November. Hosen-ji Temple, the venue of the festival, is located in a mountainous area with a large temperature difference, which makes the autumn leaves in the precincts of the temple beautiful, and the temple is well known as a temple of three-color maple trees, where one tree turns red, vermilion, and yellow. In late autumn, about 30 maple trees, including more than a dozen that are 100 to 150 years old, beautifully color the precincts of the temple, attracting visitors. The Hosenji Maple Festival also includes an open-air tea ceremony, bazaars, and other events, and visitors can also enjoy Koto (Japanese harp) performances. It is a popular festival that attracts not only locals but also tourists from within and outside of the prefecture. On the left side of the temple gate is a Bodaiju tree, which is a preserved tree in Kagawa Prefecture and is estimated to be about 400 years old. A kanmaki tree, also 400 years old and designated as a cultural asset (natural monument) by Kannonji City, is also planted here, allowing visitors to enjoy not only maple trees but also rare and valuable trees.
