Hydrangeas are in full bloom during the rainy season in June, but Unpenji Temple, the 66th temple of the Shikoku Sacred Sites, is located at an altitude of 911 meters above sea level, which is about 7 degrees Celsius higher than in the plains.
For this reason, the best time to see the approximately 30,000 hydrangea plants, which is rare in Shikoku, is later than in the plains, and can be enjoyed from early July to early August. Why not take a walk among the magnificent “midsummer hydrangeas” surrounding the Five Hundred Arhats to avoid the summer heat?
