Honen-ike Pond Yurunuki

The “Yuru-nuki” (water release) of Honen-ike Pond is held every summer when the reservoir volume of Iseki-ike Pond downstream drops below 30% of its capacity. It is a well-known seasonal tradition that takes place when the reservoir volume of Iseki Pond, located downstream, drops below 30%, and the sight of 4 tons of water being released every second with a roaring sound is spectacular and well worth seeing. “Yuru-nuki” is an event to remove the “yuru” (water intake valve) from the pond to supply water to the paddy fields for a week until the rice planting season is over. After the Yurusunaki, the amount of water distributed is adjusted according to the amount of rainfall and water storage.
