Hagiwara-ji｜Prefectural Designated Natural Monument, famous for its bush clovers

Hagiwara-ji Temple is said to have been founded by Kobo Daishi in the 2nd year of Daido (807).
During the Edo period (1603-1867), it had a glorious history as the head temple that controlled more than 280 temples, and traces of this history can still be seen today.
The precincts of the temple are lined with nine halls, including the main hall, Niomon Gate, Daishido Hall, Kyakuden Hall, and the Treasure House. The Treasure House houses hundreds of temple treasures, including the Hokke Mandala, which is designated as an Important Cultural Property.
In September, the temple is filled with 2,000 white and red hagi (bush clovers), designated as a natural monument by the prefecture, in full bloom, attracting many visitors and other visitors.

pubric bus

There are four buses a day; take the Pubric Bus Gogo Takamuro Line from JR Kanonji Station and tell the driver to go to “near Hagi no Oka Koen. It is about a 20-minute walk from Haginooka Koen to Hagiwara-dera. The Pubric Bus has no bus stops, and you can get on and off anywhere on the route. (However, getting on and off is prohibited on Route 11 except at designated areas.)

  • Hagi (bush clover) at its best
From mid to late September, approximately 2,500 bush clovers of 30 varieties bloom throughout the temple grounds, delighting the eyes of many onlookers and visitors alike, and the Hagi Festival held in September offers tea ceremonies, koto (Japanese harp) performances, and an antiques market against a backdrop of bush clovers. For this reason, it is also known as "Hagidera," and is widely known as one of the best places to view hagi.
