History of “Chosa"

The history of the Chosa Festival, which began in the Edo period (1603-1868), and the rules and distribution of the taiko stands are introduced through photographs, illustrations, and audio recordings of actual “Chosa” parts used in the past. Also on display is a valuable actual “seat boat” that played an important role in the festival. This is an important corner for visitors to learn about the history of Chosa.

Enjoy with all five senses

You can enjoy both the video and the real “Chosa”.
The digital images projected on a large 300-inch screen that covers the entire wall and the sound from a speaker that boasts a bass level that rivals that of famous theaters are truly soul-stirring and powerful.
A real “Chosa” made by local residents is also on display. Visitors can experience the sound of the taiko drums and the weight of the 2-ton “Chosa” as it is carried.

Learn about “Chosa"

The people involved in the festival, shrines associated with the Chosa festival, and traditional techniques of carving, embroidery, and decorative metal fittings are introduced from various perspectives.
The various preparations leading up to the day of the festival and the complex assembly process of the Chosa are introduced on easy-to-understand panels, and the actual Happi (happi) and lanterns, which are the pride of each community association, are beautifully displayed.
There is also a fun quiz corner about the Chosa festival.
