Ariakehama is a shallow beach in the Seto Inland Sea. The sandy beach was once called “the best beach in the East” and is still crowded with many bathers. The beach is included in the Seto Inland Sea National Park and has been selected as one of the “100 best beaches in Japan” and “100 best white sands and green pines in Japan,” and the sight of the setting sun setting over Hiuchinada is breathtaking. They are designated as a cultural asset by the city and delight visitors with their pretty flowers from spring to fall. In recent years, it has also attracted attention as a beach where the “Asagimadara” (butterfly), which is said to be mysterious, flies.
