Takaya Festival

The Takaya Festival is the only one of the many chosa festivals in the city that is held in the midst of a cherry blossom blizzard. This shrine, dedicated to the god of rice, is held as a preliminary festival to pray for a bountiful harvest, and the falling of cherry blossom petals predicts the year’s good harvest. The sight of four chousa (chorsa), decorated with embroidered gold and silver threads, parading through the cherry blossoms in full bloom as they ascend the hillside of Mt.
