Hie Shrine is said to be the shrine that welcomed the spirit of the deity as Sanno-gongen when the oak field became the domain of Hiyoshi Shrine.
Sanno-gongen is the guardian deity of Enryaku-ji Temple, which was established through a fusion of the mountain worship of Hieyama (Mt. Hieizan), Shintoism, and the Tendai sect of Buddhism.
Within the precincts of the temple is a large camphor tree, designated as a natural monument by Kagawa Prefecture, with a trunk circumference of 7.7 meters at 1.5 meters above ground level and a height of 40 meters, with branches extending 30 meters east to west and 33 meters north to south.
The camphor tree covers the roof of the hall of worship, and its roots rise up from the ground, twisting and turning, and its trunk, covered with shimenawa (sacred straw ropes), gives visitors a sense of history.
In addition, the largest number of chosa from the Kunita area are dedicated to Hie Shrine during the Autumn Festival.
