The Ariki district, which is said to be a Heike village in Onohara-cho, is said to be the place where Taira no Arimori, who was defeated in the Genpei wars, once hid and lived.
He was the grandson of Taira no Kiyomori, and the name Ariki is said to be derived from the legend of the fallen Heike. When Arimori fell in the Ariki area, he is said to have brought with him from the capital a seated statue of Amida Nyorai and a camp drum as a guardian deity, which are enshrined at the Sanbe Shrine. The seated statue of Amida Nyorai is designated as a tangible cultural property of Kagawa Prefecture and is carefully preserved.

Taira no Arimori was the grandson of Taira no Kiyomori.
According to history books, he committed suicide after the battle of Dannoura, but it is said that he fled to the Ariki district of Onohara Town, changed his name to Ariki, and remained in this area for a long time.
As evidence of this, there are many place names and stories that suggest that he had a residence in Ariki under the name of Saemon-jo or Ariki Saemon, and there are also a seated statue of Amida Nyorai, the famous sword Kogarasumaru, and a camp drum that he is said to have carried with him when he fled.
It is said that the people of the Ariki area welcomed Arimori and were so impressed that they gave him the surname Taira, which uses the Chinese character for “taira,” and many surnames such as Hiraguchi, Hirata, Hiraoka, and Hiraki remain in the area today. The road in the Ariki district is called Arimori Road, and the bridge before entering Arimori Road is called Arimori Bridge.
